Techital, Inc. was awarded a 3 year contract to maintain the network infrastructure for a "state-of-the-art" executive business center building housing over 50 companies in 40,000 SQFT. It's network infrastructure had been poorly maintained and was in desperate need of auditing and reorganizing. The network was experiencing outages on a very frequent basis - at least a few users per week.
Upon taking over the management of the clients infrastructure, Techital immediately began auditing the existing cabling and carried out a survey of all users. Initially the data communications room was almost physically impassable with over 300 data cables hanging out of the patch panels and switches without any order or structure.
Techital documented every outlet, patch panel and patch cable so that a conclusive network topology could be created and the network could be reviewed. On review it was determined that the network had several bottlenecks and due to it's design (or lack of) had introduced multiple points of potential failure.
At a scheduled out-of-hours time, Techital removed all cabling in the primary data communications room. The data racks were reconfigured with appropriate spacing for network switches, routers and firewalls. Additionally new cable management was also installed. The patch cabling was carefully replaced and "dressed" into the new and existing unused cable management. Mean while the network topology was altered into a hierarchical design vs daisy-chain.
Upon completion Techital was on standby at the start of business the following business day should any users have connectivity problems or questions. Due to our careful planning and execution, not one connection was missed or required attention. Over the course of the next month the network experienced ZERO OUTAGES,
Since the data room was now organized and structured the ongoing maintenance was greatly simplified.
This project was then repeated in the secondary data room with the same result.
This project was conducted in 2002 and to date has ensured that the business center has had a smooth running network. Techital has also received much praise and 2 additional contract extensions for its infrastructure management service for this location. |
